Jan Clark-Fugit received her formation at the National Ballet in Washington D.C. and at the age of 14, joined the Denver Civic Ballet’s junior company under the direction of American Ballet Theatre’s Enrique Martinez. She later became a member of Ballet Colorado and was promoted to Principal dancer. Performing leading roles in classical and contemporary genre including “The Nutcracker” , “The Sleeping Beauty” and “Swan Lake”, Jan went on to perform as a Principal in Central City Opera productions under the auspices of the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Jan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance from the Loretto Heights College and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Ballet from the University of Utah, with an emphasis in teaching and choreography.

A teacher of national renown, Jan has served on the faculties of several universities and colleges including the University of Utah and the University of Hawaii. She created and implemented a four year syllabus for ballet students majoring in teaching dance for Loretto Heights College, Denver Colorado. Jan was a prominent member on the faculty of the Ballet West Christensen Academy and the Division of Continuing Education programs at the University of Utah directed by Willam Christensen. She was a full-time instructor for The School of Ballet West under directors Bruce Marks and John Hart.

Jan taught for Ballet West’s summer intensive programs in Aspen Colorado and toured extensively with Ballet West as the rehearsal assistant to children performing with the company. Jan co-owned and directed The Ballet School in SLC for ten years, creating a graded syllabus for children ages 6 and older making it one of Utah’s premiere academies for training young professionals. Most recently Jan formed Classical Ballet Classes, where she taught and mentored select students to achieve great success in ballet companies, trainee programs, and colleges nationwide.
