Melissa Bobick and Students at Palm Desert Choreography Festival

Associate Professor Melissa Bobick’s choreographic work Press Against the Glass was a finalist in the Palm Desert Choreography Festival. Bobick wrote the following about the experience:

My original choreographic work, Press Against the Glass, was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Palm Desert Choreography Festival. With support from the College of Fine Arts and the School of Dance I was able to travel with eight student dancers to perform this piece at the festival.

The festival takes place at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, California, a renowned 1,127-seat venue. Now in its 27th year, it draws professional and pre-professional dance companies from across the United States and is adjudicated by leaders in the dance industry. 

For me as a choreographer, being able to participate offers me the chance to present my work to a wider audience and gain professional exposure. For our students, performing at this level is a unique learning opportunity. We were so proud to represent the University of Utah School of Dance on the national stage.
