Two empirical research studies co-authored by U of U School of Dance summer faculty member Tom Welsh were recently published (early release) in the international Journal Dance Medicine & Science: including "Assessing and Improving Mental Resilience in University Dancers: A Pilot Study" and "Measuring and Improving Développé Height in University Dancers Using Single-Case Research Methods. One study evaluated a 4-week, small-group training program for improving dancers' developpe performance. Kaitln Morgan completed the study as an Honor's in the Major project while complete a BFA in Dance at our sister School of Dance at the Florida State University. The other study evaluated a 6-week, individualized training program for improving dancer's mental resiliance. Casey Copeland completed the study as her MA in Dance Capstone project. Dr. Welsh has been teaching dance fitness & movement classes for summer dance workshops at the U since graduating from the U in 1991. He does most of his professional writing while in residence at the U including two faculty sabbaticals used in creating Conditioning for Dancers (2009) and Research Methods in the Dance Sciences (2023).
