Announcing the 2026-27 School of Dance Performance Season

The School of Dance at the University of Utah is proud to announce its 2026 – 2027 Main Stage Concert Series. Continuing a long-standing record of excellence in performance and artistic exploration, the SOD will feature brand new and re-staged dances from local, national, and international choreographers.  

The power to communicate and share art with the world is innate and essential to the human experience. Join us in celebrating the beauty of movement by attending our concerts! Unbound

This program celebrates Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month and a collaboration with Utah Presents. Audiences will experience an excerpt from Psalm by the great Mexican American dancer and choreographer José Limón, staged by UU faculty member Natalie Desch. (Catch NYC’s Limón Dance Company performing at Kingsbury Hall just one week prior on September 24th with a special guest performance by UU students!) The School of Dance is also honored to invite Sandra Rivera, choreographer, writer, educator, and one of Ballet Hispánico’s founding members as a guest choreographer and lecturer. To round out the program, faculty members Daniel Clifton, Pamela Geber-Handman and Timothy Lynch present contemporary and neo-classical dances that further showcase the talent and versatility of School of Dance students.

Continuum

Continuum celebrates the UU School of Dance’s amazing faculty choreographers and re-stagers, while featuring the School’s second Korean universities exchange project. Dr. Hyoungnam Kim, Professor at Sejong University, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Chair of the Dance Department, and General Director of Toetmaru Dance Company in Korea, presents a new contemporary work created especially for UU students. Audiences will also experience excerpts from one of Tchaikovsky’s most beloved story ballets, The Nutcracker, staged by UU faculty member Luc Vanier. UU faculty members Christine McMillan and Satu Hummasti explore new contemporary and neo-classical dances.

Heritage and Horizon 

The final main stage concert of the year showcases a brand-new contemporary ballet choreographed by Dance Theatre of Harlem alumnus Ingrid Silva, alongside a new contemporary work by faculty member Eric Handman, and an excerpt from the nineteenth century masterpiece Don Quixote, a jewel of the classical ballet repertory, stage by UU faculty member Jong-Hoon (Jay) Kim.
