Hyung-Nam Kim is Professor and Head of the Department of Dance at Sejong University. As a contemporary dancer, choreographer, educator, researcher, and arts administrator, he has contributed extensively to the development and expansion of contemporary dance in Korea.

He currently serves as Chairman of the Korea Modern Dance Association, Vice Chairman of the Korea Dance Association, Artistic Director of Tatmaroo Dance Company, Director of the Sejong Dance Contents Research Center, and Co-Chair of PADAF (Play And Dance Art Festival). He also served as the 9th and 10th President of The Korean Society of Dance Studies.

Kim has participated as a choreographer and overall choreographic director in major national cultural events, including the ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of Korea’s March 1st Independence Movement, the cultural performance of the PyeongChang Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony, the National Sports Festival Opening Ceremony, and the Incheon Asian Games Opening Ceremony.

His artistic practice extends beyond conventional contemporary dance to interdisciplinary performance, arts education, and research connecting dance with emerging technologies and new forms of artistic content.

His production Cruel Entertainment with Tatmaroo Dance Company received the Grand Prize in the competition section of the 42nd Seoul Dance Festival. His honors include the Dance Spirit Award, the Best Contemporary Dancer Award, and the Grand Prize in Dance at the 39th Korea Arts and Culture Awards in 2026. In August 2026, he also received a Commendation from the Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council in recognition of his contributions to dance, interdisciplinary arts, and the advancement of arts and culture.
