Landscapes Within & Without

RDT's Link Series presents Landscapes Within & Without, a split-bill evening featuring two multimedia works: Desert Turtle by Mitsu Salmon and See Me Closely by Kellie St. Pierre. The program brings together dance, projection, film, and original music to explore identity, memory, and connection in the digital age. St. Pierre's technical precision and creative risk-taking meet Salmon's deeply personal choreography, resulting in a performance that is both intimate and expansive.

A solo work by Mitsu Salmon, Desert Turtle delves into the artist’s familial history, the symbolic power of turtles, and the contrasting landscapes of Yokohama, Japan, and the Mojave Desert. This deeply personal piece weaves movement with storytelling, creating a meditative exploration of memory, heritage, and belonging. Through the symbolism of the turtle, Salmon reflects on the intersections of place, culture, and personal narrative. This work has toured in Boston, Philadelphia, Arkansas, Chicago and this is the first time it is finally being shown to Salmon’s hometown in Salt Lake.

In See Me Closely, choreographer Kellie St. Pierre combines movement, objects, and film to examine the tension between connectivity and authentic human interaction. The work features a cast of local dancers, an original score by local composer Josiah Pugmire, and projection mapping that transforms the stage into a dynamic landscape of shifting perspectives. This technical production invites audiences to consider the complexities of our digital lives while exploring the intimacy of embodied connection.
