Performance Lab - Movement Fest LA
“We are thrilled to introduce MovementFest LA, a new dance festival taking place in Los Angeles from July 27th – August 9th at the L.A. Dance Project Studio + Performance Space.
MovementFest LA is a new ecosystem for dance in Los Angeles—connecting the spaces where dance is trained, created, performed, and shared with the public. The festival will feature:
27 workshops led by over 10 internationally renowned teaching artists
Two Performance Labs
Two weekends of live performances
Community events that bring artists and audiences together
Founded by Jessie Lee Thorne, Mike Tyus, and Majella Bess, MovementFest LA is presented and produced in partnership with L.A. Dance Project as part of LADP Presents.
We are excited to announce that APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN for our 2026 Performance Labs.
The Performance Lab is a two-week creative incubator designed for professional and pre-professional dancers who are eager to engage deeply in the choreographic process alongside leading artists. This year’s labs include:
Performance Lab 001 led by Mike Tyus & Diego Vega Solórza
Performance Lab 002 led by Dolly Sfeir
Each lab culminates in the Weekend Two Showcase, where newly created works premiere as part of the MovementFest LA performance program.
This is a unique opportunity for your students to train, collaborate, and perform within a professional creative environment while building meaningful connections within the LA dance community.
