Yes! UBSI participants are eligible to receive University of Utah college credit available through the Department of Continuing Education. Credit can be given for Ballet Technique (BLOCK 1), Pointe/Variations or Men's Class (BLOCK 2), and Other Dance Techniques (BLOCK 3). Tuition for credit is not included in the UBSI Tuition amount--it is an additional fee paid directly to the Department of Continuing Education. UBSI participants must elect for credit BEFORE the intensive starts (deadline to register is June 15, 2026). All credits earned are graded as credit/no-credit and can be applied toward graduation at the University of Utah. UBSI participants enrolled in other colleges/universities should check with their institution regarding transferring credit.

Unfortunately, the University of Utah does not open admissions applications until August 1 and we are not allowed to begin auditioning until that time. The Summer Intensive is a great opportunity for students to get-to-know School of Dance faculty and create a rapport during the summer. We then encourage participants interested in joining our BFA majors to audition during the school year either in-person or via video auditions.

If you were awarded a tuition scholarship to attend UBSI, congratulations! We are thrilled you have accepted our scholarship offer to attend the Utah Ballet Summer Intensive and we look forward to having you train with us this summer. Being a recipient of a tuition scholarship comes with the expectation that you will attend all classes, abiding by the dress code, and work to the best of your ability to set an example for the other participants.

If you are a current major in the University of Utah School of Dance, we ask that you should plan to be present at Conditioning as well as all Technique classes and rehearsals if you are doing the full day. If you are doing Morning's Only, you are expected to take Conditioning as well as Technique and Pointe/Variations or Men's Class. Outside projects should be scheduled around your class time. You are our best recruiters and many participants are shaping their decisions on where to attend college, so be a good ambassador for the School of Dance

TRAX will be the main mode of public transportation to downtown, the grocery store, and most excursions. The University has multiple TRAX Red-Line stops on campus. Participants can also take the TRAX Green-Line train to the airport (transferring from the Green-Line to Red-Line trains at the Courthouse stop). All participants will need to purchase tickets to ride TRAX. Participants can either purchase one-time use tickets, daily tickets, or a monthly pass for the entire intensive. Find maps, rider information, and ticket/pass purchase information here.
For students interested in driving to campus and parking at the University of Utah, you will need to purchase a parking pass from Commuter Services. Information can be found here.

Activities vary from year-to-year, but in the past have included: weekly visits to the swimming pool; hikes; trips to museums, the Utah Capitol, Red Butte Gardens, and the Hogle Zoo; and an annual 4th of July pizza party at the dorms. Participants will be responsible for paying for activities on their own (pool entrance fee, movie ticket, etc). All participants should come with a pre-paid debit/credit card.
All UBSI participants are invited to join in all activities (even if not staying in the dorms). Activities will be experienced by pod. RAs will announce activities each week and will ensure all participants are knowledgeable of upcoming events. Please check in with your RA if you have any questions.

The School of Dance has an on-site Athletic Trainer. Our specialists will be performing core strength testing to UBSI participants to help you determine where you need to focus your strengthening to decrease the chance of injury. We will send out a short questionnaire to participants regarding any back pain you may have or have had. The testing will take about 15 minutes of your time during the intensive.
This is a free test and you will be able to take your paper back to your own Physical Therapist / Athletic Trainer and/or studio as you see fit. This is a great opportunity for UBSI participants to take part in! The Athletic Training room is located in the basement of the Marriott Center for Dance, Room 24. If the door is open and there are no other students in there, feel free to stop in for an assessment.
